Preconception Care
The months preceding conception are important and allow a woman to prepare herself physically and emotionally for a healthy pregnancy. This is a great time to get to know the midwives at Beach Cities Midwifery and Women’s Health Care.
We can assist you by making sure you are at your best prior to becoming pregnant. Evidence shows that taking a folic acid supplement in the months preceding pregnancy prevents certain birth defects such as Spina Bifida. Achieving your ideal healthy weight and establishing an exercise program will also get you off to a great start.
The midwives at Beach Cities Midwifery encourage you to come meet with them in order to get personalized and supportive pre-conception counseling.
Prenatal Care & Childbirth

It is no secret that a woman’s childbearing years are some of the most important times in her life! Your initial prenatal visit with us will last approximately one hour. During that visit, we will discuss how to achieve a healthy pregnancy, highlighting issues of lifestyle, diet, exercise, and education.
We will thoroughly review your health history and go over what you should expect from us in regards to your prenatal care. Laboratory tests will be recommended based on your individual needs. The midwives will recommend and offer all of the same laboratory and diagnostic tests, like ultrasounds, as any other type of provider that cares for pregnant women. One difference you will notice is that our midwives will take the time to discuss with you what we recommend and why, instead of just sending you to the lab uninformed. It is also important for us to point out that we can draw the majority of the necessary lab tests in our office, preventing you from having to go out and wait at a lab. We work with a board certified obstetrician should there be any concerns that develop during your pregnancy or during your birth. In addition we collaborate with the Magella Medical Group where we coordinate any specialized ultrasounds that may be needed.
After Birth Care
The early days at home with a newborn baby can be the most challenging in a young family’s life. The midwives will maintain close contact with you during this time. We remain available to you for any questions you have, to assist you with breastfeeding, and support you during this joyful, yet demanding life transition time. Lactation support is available at the office and by phone as you may need. Postpartum visits will be scheduled for 2 weeks and 6 weeks following your birth.
